NEW SEASON AT NEW YORK'S TEMPLE EMANU-EL: Arcos Orchestra presents its next season at New York's Temple Emanu-El - The Arcos Orchestra shall present an abbreviated 2011-2012 Season at New York's Temple Emanu-El. The two concerts of the season are Sensational Sweden on 14 March 2012, featuring three US Premières alongside a World-Première by our composer-in-residence Anders Eliasson, and Trans-European Express, which highlights a World Première bz UK-based Irish composer Nicola LeFanu. The program featured the North American Premières of two very special works: the beautiful and moving Viola Concerto by Holocaust victim Leo Smit (1900-1943), performed with elegance and expressive power by Emily Deans, and The Concert in the Egg (2004) by Hans Kox (b. 1930). The concert also brought the World Première of the Lullabye for a Young Girl Dreaming (version for string orchestra, 2011) by American-in-Holland Vanessa Lann (b. 1968), and a performance of the Variations for Strings (1985) by the extraordinary Dutch composer Tristan Keuris (1946-1996). Vanessa Lann participated in rehearsals and a pre-concert talk, speaking poignantly about her music and this very special composition.
8 December Festive Concert at New York's Temple Emanu-El - The Arcos Orchestra's second concert of its first season as Orchestra-in-Residence at New York's Temple Emanu-El was a great success! Festive Tones opened with a new arrangement by Samuel Adler of traditional Blessings for Chanukah, sung by Cantor Lori Corrsin. The program also included the world premiere of Dimitri Terzakis' Nymphs of Night & Fire (2010), Samuel Adler's Concertino No 3 and the Bartók Divertimento. Both the concert and the pre-concert talk with John-Edward Kelly, Dimitri Terzakis and Samuel Adler were well attended and enthusiastically received. 27 October 2010 Inaugural Concert at New York's Temple Emanu-El - The Arcos Orchestra inaugurated its 2010-2011 Season as Orchestra-in-Residence at New York's Temple Emanu-El with Northern Lights on 27 October 2010. This very successful concert highlighting Northern European music featured the US Premieres of Allan Pettersson's Mesto and Anders Eliasson's A Brief Glance, a Fleeting Vision (2003). Orchestra in Residence - Temple Emanu-El, New York - The Arcos Orchestra has become "Orchestra in Residence" at New York's extraordinary Temple Emanu-El. The orchestra will present an initial series of four concerts in the 2010-2011 season, followed by 4-6 concerts each season thereafter. The programs reflect Arcos' dedication to helping the listener gain access to lesser-known music. The dates of the inaugural concert series are 27 October 2010, 8 December 2010, 9 March 2011 and 18 May 2011. All concerts begin at 7:00 PM, admission is free to the public. View the 27 October 2010 fundraising video. 2nd European Tour - The 2nd European Tour of the Arcos Orchestra took place in March, 2010, with 11 concerts in Germany, France and Italy, including a major performance at the Konzerthaus in Berlin. Soloists include the renowned clarinetist Sabine Meyer, German trumpeter Reinhold Friedrich and German Pianist Susanne Grützmann. The tour was an overwhelming success, as can be seen in the outstanding press reviews. European Tour Videos - Live excerpts from the Arcos Orchestra's March 2010 European tour can now be watched on YouTube. The video recordings were made at our 13 March concert at the Academy of Music in Detmold, Germany. A sample is below (Eliasson - Ostácoli). Anders Eliasson CD-Recording - The Arcos Orchestra's first commercial CD has been released by NEOS Music in Munich, Germany. The CD features three major works by this remarkable Swedish composer, "Desert Point", "Ostácoli" and the world-premiere recording of the "Sinfonia per archi". The recording has received many honors already, including being selected for the "Top List" recommendations for 2008 by the Neue Musikzeitung in Germany and the "Best Recordings" list of Crescendo Magazine. It received an excellent review in Fanfare Magazine and has been presented and lavishly praised on both DeutschlandRadio and Saarlaendischer Rundfunk. The recording is available internationally from NEOS Music. Kalevi Aho / Pehr Henrik Nordgren Double-Portrait - The Arcos Orchestra presented in 2009 a New York double-portrait of the remarkable Finnish composers, Kalevi Aho and Pehr Henrik Nordgren. Kalevi Aho was on hand to introduce his own works and pay homage to his longtime friend Pehr Henrik Nordgren, who died in 2008. The program was a smashing success, and the American premiere of Kalevi Aho's Symphony No 14 made a particularly great impression. The entire program will be recorded for NEOS Music in 2010. Samuel Adler Portrait Concert - Our very successful 2008 portrait concert of American composer Samuel Adler at the Juilliard School, Lincoln Center, New York, is to be repeated in 2009-2010 season (venue to be announced). The program includes Adler's Arcos Concerto (2008), as well as the Elegy for Strings, the Nuptial Scene (with mezzo-soprano Re'ut Ben-Ze'ev), Beyond the Pale (with clarinet soloist Igor Begelman) and the Concertino No 3. Details to follow! Samuel Adler CD Recording - The Arcos Orchestra is planning to record a CD with music of Samuel Adler for NEOS Music of Germany. The recording should be completed in the spring of 2010 and is expected to be released shortly thereafter. Arcos Portrait CD - A CD recording featuring highlights of the Arcos Orchestra's repertoire shall be recording during the March, 2010 concert tour. The CD is to be released by NEOS Music and shall include Barber Adagio, Shostakovich Chamber Symphony, Bartók Divertimento and Nordgren Symphony for Strings. Anders Eliasson Portrait - Following the Arcos Orchestra's successful portrait concert of Swedish composer Anders Eliasson in New York (January 25th,
